The LOJ

Informed by data reflecting community values and shared experience, together we can make smarter decisions and direct resources where they will have the greatest impact.

This survey is being conducted by the Lions of Judah and its partners who have engaged Logos Insight, a professional research firm, led by Dr. B. Cugelman, a career professional in online psychology and behavior change.

Dr. Cugelman has worked with leading organizations such as Samsung, Salesforce, Apple, Google, and the United Nations, and trained professionals across the globe in using psychology to create meaningful impact. Before that, he spent a decade as a global impact evaluator, auditing major social change initiatives across sectors and continents.

The vision is to have this annual community driven research initiative as a tool to understand the impact of legacy and grassroots advocacy efforts in a post October 7th reality to help calibrate future initiatives in the year ahead for most efficient and effective impact.

By taking part, you will help shape a public report designed to strengthen our community’s fight against antisemitism, enhance security, and build our community’s resilience.

Your voice will contribute to a clearer understanding of what’s working, what needs improvement, and how we can respond more effectively to the challenges we face.

Vision

A Canadian Jewish community that is empowered, informed, and resilient — one that speaks with clarity, acts with confidence, and is guided by real data rather than assumptions.

This vision is anchored in three outcomes:

Mobilization — A stronger, broader, and more representative pipeline of advocates, leaders, and volunteers who are ready to step up when the community calls. A confident, resilient, and united Jewish community in Canada — one that is informed by real data, empowered by effective leadership, and prepared to face today’s challenges with clarity and strength.

Community Impact — A national snapshot of Jewish life in Canada, published through an annual Community Impact Report.

Accountability — Year-over-year tracking of spending and impact across legacy institutions, grassroots initiatives, and even oppositional groups, ensuring the community can make informed choices about where to place its trust and resources.

Values

Our goal is not to tear down, but to shine a light — to ensure that decisions about representation, funding, and strategy are rooted in measurable impactbroader community input, and a shared commitment to the Jewish future.

Listening First — Every voice matters, and we cannot know what the community needs unless we ask.

Transparency — Data and insights will be shared in the resulting Community Impact Report that will be made available to the community as no cost through the work of the LOJ, empowering individuals, philanthropists, legacy and grassroots organizations alike.

Unity in Diversity — Respecting the full spectrum of Jewish identities and affiliations, while uniting around shared safety, dignity, and future.

Impact-Driven — Moving beyond talk to measurable outcomes in advocacy, security, and community strength.

Preparedness & Resilience — Ensuring Canadian Jewry is not only surviving today’s challenges but is equipped to thrive for generations ahead.

Panel Study for Community Improvement

This research is structured as a panel survey, with different areas of in-depth focus at each wave. This means we will conduct the same study at regular intervals, enabling us to track progress and measure the impact of community efforts over time.

Findings from this survey will be shared with the broader community, aimed at sparking conversations about problems, solutions, priorities, and new approaches to our shared challenges.

Anonymity and Confidentiality

Protecting participants’ identities is our top priority. All surveys are anonymous by default, meaning you can complete them without sharing your name or contact details. Please also avoid including personal details in open-ended answers. But if such information is submitted, our team will remove or obscure it.

At times, participants may be invited to share contact information—for example, to join our panel or receive a copy of the final report. In such cases, contact details will be disconnected from the survey and stored separately.

In rare cases where evidence of fraudulent or hostile activity arises, we may retain suspicious contact details solely to protect the integrity of the study. These details will not be linked to legitimate responses and will remain accessible only to the core research team.

Raw data will never leave the core research team. Publicly shared findings will always be presented in aggregate, anonymized or obfuscated form to eliminate identity-related risks.

Those who join our panel will provide basic contact details, which will be held in strict confidence. However, panel members will still be able to submit survey responses completely anonymously. In other words, while we will have contact details for those who join the panel, we will never know whether they completed any given survey.

Protective Research Ethics

This research project is being conducted at a precarious time in our history where we find ourselves in a hostile environment. The Canadian Jewish community faces real challenges—from heightened levels of threat to experienced acts of violence—and our research practices reflect this reality.

We aim to follow standard nonprofit research practices and the spirit of Canada’s Tri-Council Policy on the Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (TCPS 2). At the same time, we must balance these principles with the practical need to protect our community from those who may seek to undermine it.

For example, releasing every detail of our methods or data processing could create opportunities for hostile actors. For this reason, we have adopted a protective research ethics model. This means we are committed to maintaining the highest ethical standards possible, while making careful trade-offs when necessary to protect the study, our participants and the broader community.

Commitment to Authentic Contributions

This study depends on the authentic contributions of participants to reflect sincere community voices. To protect this integrity, any fraudulent, malicious, or insincere submissions will be flagged and removed. In cases of deliberate or coordinated interference, records may be retained for security purposes. Where there is evidence of unlawful actions, data may be used as evidence to uphold the law and/or safeguard the integrity of this study and our community.
